Punk's Not Dead!
I've been listening to punk rock almost for as long as I've been reading sci-fi and fantasy so I thought, "Why not combine the these two great loves of mine?" And thus, the Punk's Not Dead! Reading Challenge has been born!
The rules are pretty simple: read any book considered part of the -punk suffixed sub-genres listed on WWEnd sub-genre page, namely steampunk, cyberpunk and/or splatterpunk. You don't have to review every book you read but I do ask that you at least stop by the forum thread to say a few words about what you read. I'm not overly familiar with these sub-genres (the main reason I've started this challenge) and want to hear about what you guys are reading.
I've named the reading levels after various figures in the punk rock community, both past and present. Matt Skiba is the guitarist/co-vocalist of one of my favorite bands, Alkaline Trio, and he is currently recording with Blink-182. Tim Armstrong is the vocalist/guitarist of Rancid, was a founding member of influential ska punk band Operation Ivy and is a Grammy-winning producer who has worked with artists as diverse as AFI, Pink and Jimmy Cliff. Lux Interior was the lead singer of The Cramps, an influential garage punk band who were one of the innovators of psychobilly and whose look was heavily influenced by retro horror/sci-fi b-movie iconography. Joey Ramone was the lead singer of one of the most influential punk bands ever, the Ramones.
