I had basement level expectations for this book. I did not like Prudence the first book in Gail Carriger's newish series, The Custard Protocol. It had run full bore over the line from precious too ridiculous. Plus, there was almost no plot until the last 50 pages.
Reading Imprudence was a relief. Don't get me wrong, these novels are not going to win any awards and they are a bit of a fast-food snack of a book. But it was entertaining, and that was a relief.
This book closes many of the storylines left open from the Parasol Protectorate series. For that I am grateful to Ms. Carriger. But she also forwarded a plot for her new group of characters, several of which are the children of the characters from the last series. I think I'm still willing to give this series a chance.
3 of 5 stars.
