I don't generally read YA
... and I would have told you that this book is totally not "my sort" of book.
But it came highly recommended by several people whose tastes closely align with mine, so I got it from my library.
Oh, wow. This is a fantastic book -- so much so that I am seriously considering nominating it for the Hugos, even though I never nominate YA books for the Hugos.
Perhaps the reason I enjoyed it so much is that it utterly avoids -- in fact, is the exact opposite of -- the cutesy, excessively saccharine-sweet books often marketed as YA (when they're not grim dystopias, which seem to be most YA books these days). The author's acerbic wit is an utter delight.
This book is a refreshing breath of fresh air, and the perfect read when you need a story about good people getting what they deserve for a change.
I encourage anyone who enjoys fantasy to get hold of this book -- it's well worth the time, effort, and money.
