I loved this book the first time I read it more than twenty years ago. I like Killashandra's arrogant personality even less now, but I appreciate that McCaffrey avoided the stereotypical female.
After 10 years of training, Killishandra finds out that she could never be a soloist. Immediately afterwards, she meets a Crystal Singer on holiday. After he is terribly injured when a shuttle explodes, she accompanies his comatose body to Ballybrand, headquarters of the mysterious and powerful Heptite Guild. She decides to go through with her inclination to join the guild as a Crystal Singer.
This is not an action thriller. It is a more or less straightforward story of our main subject, Killishandra and how her life makes detours.
