Among Others, by Jo Walton, is a psychological journey of an adolescent woman, set Wales and England circa 1980. She is caught between a personally tragic world imbued with magic, fairies and witches while she struggles to mature in the real world with her desire for friendship and intimacy. The main character is driven by a passion for reading Science Fiction and Fantasy, from which the author wonderfully weaves bibliographical references and topical discussions about Sci-Fi.
Among Others is really brilliant and continuously drew me in as I wondered how it would end. Ultimately, the story captures the consequences from personal loss and what it's like to be lost.
