The Islanders is not a conventional book. It's more akin to a series of connected short stories than a novel. If you were hoping for consistent locations, characters, or even plots, you should look elsewhere.
That's not to say The Islanders isn't a good read. Christopher Priest has created a very interesting place in the Dream Archipelago. A place full of mystery, murder, war, peace, love, and disgusting parasitic bugs.
It's an interesting experiment, and the more you read, the more you catch onto what's going on behind the scenes. If you're looking for something that's easy to read, but still makes you think, and you'd like to take a step away from normal, give The Islanders a look.
