I usually like to give longer reviews, but I'd rather not spend more time on this book. I didn't like it much. That's not to say it isn't written well.
The descriptions, the world-building, the SCIENCE!!!!, it's all really thought out. Robinson really manages to bring this solar system to life. It feels authentic in a way many authors can't manage.
Unfortunately, I found the story be less compelling. Some call this a love story, others a mystery, and still more a space opera. It's all three, I guess, but I still found it to be slow, and frankly, boring.
The main character, Swan, felt shallow and immature. That's surprising, considering she's 130 years old or something.
I've never read anything else by Robinson, but he's apparently a SF vet. Somewhere down the line, I'd like to read more of his stuff, but it'll probably be a while.
If this book is your cup of tea, great! I hope you love it. But personally, I found it lacking in strong characters, and a compelling plot.
