Second "book" of the series is another collection of stories - 3 this time. Shouldn't read this prequel before the first one, and doesn't stand alone.
What it *does* do is connect nicely with the first book - origin stories, reasons. It reveals that the first book is frighteningly close to current times, if you believe in grey goo and human arrogance. I was glad that some folks had a lift. Points to more potential secrets for the third book.
I liked the collection, but not as much as the first one. Based on what we know, I want to finish the series before starting anything on the TV box. More thoughts on the whole series in the next review.
