This story reads like it wants to me a memoir of a still-painful time in her life, but the author realizes there are a lot of such memoirs, and it motivates her to blend the reality with some fantasy to make the story more original.

The reader will be well served to read the afterward "Why I Don't Tell It Like It Is Exactly", which will give a clear understanding of what the author wants to convey with this war memoir-fantasy tale mashup. If what is written there intrigues you, you will probably feel that reading the whole story will be worth it.

The hospital section and the back home section both come off fairly convincing. The jungle section is barely believable. It makes for mildly interesting fantasy, but dliutes the impact of the war setting with it's required distortions.
