Strange, interesting, melancholy, and a treatise for the soul. One of the most unusual but original works I've had the pleasure of reading. My first foray into Kafka and not my last. I found his writing style to be well-crafted, even meticulous, and with careful precision in laying out scenes. At times I was digging for metaphor and others just letting the story unfold and waiting to see how it culminates. The ending was an anti-climax in some ways but it has left me a lot to contemplate and perhaps in time I will find a deeper understanding of its meaning...or otherwise will just recall a very original story.
