This is a significant post-Dune Herbert contribution, a testament to his evolution as a writer. Almost everything from Herbert is post-Dune and post-Pulp, but this masterpiece was written early in his career, marking a pivotal point in his literary journey.

So, it's well-written and brings two storylines together with an exciting plot. It's a straightforward, quick read. I don't particularly care for the Aliens controlling Earthlings theme, so I only gave it 3 1/2 stars. But if you like Herbert, you'll enjoy "The Heaven Makers."

If you're interested in Herbert before the Dune Pulp era, pick up "Under Pressure," "Eye," or "The Best of Frank Herbert 1952-1964."
