Content Warning for large amounts of sexual assault and emotional abuse
This novel is the rare Cherryh dud. It contains huge amounts of rape and emotional abuse, but without engaging in the appropriate levels of examination and consequences of the results. There's an almost creepy acceptance of it, and the "happy ending with the rapee falling in like/love with their rapist" thing really aggravates me.
Supposedly this and Finity's End should be read as a pair in that order, but I think that the latter stands alone fine, and anyone who finds the subject matter of this one difficult, or starts it and considers DNFing because it's just not that good, will be fine giving it up and going on to Finity's End.
