It's totally out of my wheelhouse, but it works. I enjoyed the Haskel character, which is loosely based on Margaret Brundage. The atmospheric burlesque style combined with a heartfelt story did the trick.
The fantasy comes late in the story. No one will ever accuse this novella of being over-fantasized.
