The City We Became

Very different from The Broken Earth trilogy, if that's what you're looking for. It verges on horror, and in fact, it reminded me of Stephen King's "Needful Things". Jemisin's tribute to New York is not a joyful romp, but it is interesting, if a bit predictable.
