This was a good enjoyable book, marred by some flow issues, but overall enjoyable in it's theme. The notable part of this book for me is the appearance of the most bizarrely racist and out of place chapter in a book I've read in a long time
I tend to think of scifi authors as forward thinking visionaries, who are able to cast aside the status quo of today and create an image of progress. Well apparently Ray still thought, fifty years after authoring this book, that freaking lynching (!!!!) parties, horrible treatment of blacks and borderline slave driving mentality would still be an accepted norm. I mean, crikey, the nasty people in this chapter actually talk about going out for their typical friday terrorizing and lynching someone! I hope Ray didn't honestly believe such behaviour and activities would still be looked at with a blind eye 50yr later.
