Memorable because of the 2nd-person narration. This is an effective way for Jemisin to get the reader to identify with the protagonist, but her writing is good enough by itself to do that, even when the narration is more traditionally done.
I especially loved the "Twilight Zone"-esque revelation that the 3 characters are all one in the same. The life of an orogene is very well portrayed, while at the same time accomplishing elegant world-building. A great start to 'The Broken Earth' series and well-worth the Hugo.
