Veteran Posts: 254 Location: California | The Stoker Award ballot is out. Superior Achievement in a Novel The Reformatory, Tananarive Due (Saga) How to Sell a Haunted House, Grady Hendrix (Berkley) Don?t Fear the Reaper, Stephen Graham Jones (Saga) Lone Women, Victor LaValle (One World) Black River Orchard, Chuck Wendig (Del Rey) Does anyone have any thoughts on what will win? I was thinking Lone Women by Victor LaValle but my predictive accuracy is almost in the negative numbers.

Uber User Posts: 613 Location: New Zealand | Lone Woman would be an excellent winner in my opinion.Maybe also the Stephen Graham Jones. I have enjoyed that series. I haven't read The Reformatory yet, but it's on my list to read this year. I may have to move it up a bit.

Veteran Posts: 254 Location: California | Well, once again, my predictive ability has failed me. This year's Bram Stoker award for the novel has gone to The Reformatory by Due. I think last year was a strong one for the horror genre, there were several worthy choices.

Veteran Posts: 254 Location: California | The Shirley Jackson awards have come out. It's interesting that he Reformatory byTananarive Due and Don't Fear the Reaper by Stephen Graham Jones were the only ones also in the Stoker shortlist. Novel The Daughters of Block Island, Christa Carmen (Thomas & Mercer) Every Version Ends in Death, Aliya Chaudhry (Haunt) The Reformatory, Tananarive Due (Saga Press) Don't Fear the Reaper, Stephen Graham Jones (Saga) The Militia House, John Milas (Henry Holt & Company) Brainwyrms, Alison Rumfitt (Nightfire) ETA: The Locus Awards shortlist had all of the Stoker Awards shortlist choices but doesn't have the Shirley Jackson shortlist other than The Reformatory and Don't Fear the Reaper. I've always been interested in why some books are chosen over others. Is it availability, literary quality, reader awareness? Edited by lisagarrity 2024-06-11 1:24 PM
