Member Posts: 24 Location: Virginia | I would love to see a ranked list of the books that make the most lists. I'm not suggesting a new official "list," but it would be an interesting compliment to the list of most nominated books. The list of most nominated books can be viewed as a certain kind of "best of" in that it captures what was hot in the moment, although more recent titles are favored due to the abundance of awards nowadays. By contrast, a list of books that make the most lists may provide a broader consensus of where the true classics rank, or at least which books bear the tests of time and influence. For example, Frankenstein and Man in the High Castle are on a ton of lists but have 1 award between the two of them. I'm guessing top is Dispossessed with 11, then Frankenstein and Dune with 10, Doomsday book with 9.... Is is possible to sort them and display the top rankings?

Member Posts: 24 Location: Virginia | Wow - that was pretty fast response. Awesome! I'm glad that being included in this list doesn't count as a "list" and thus artificially bump up the list count.

Admin Posts: 4008 Location: Dallas, Texas | Yeah, well, that one was so obvious a miss on our part that whargoul and I felt like we had to jump on it right away. It was low hanging fruit too since it's just slicing and dicing data we already have rather then adding a bunch of books etc. We did have to account for the new list not counting as a best of list in itself! We're really pleased with the results so I hope everyone likes the new list. I sure wish we could get to these other projects that fast.

Member Posts: 9 | Just a little bit too late . I made a list of all the books in all the lists a couple of weeks ago when I was bored, in order of how often a book was in a list. Conclusion: there are a lot of books in the lists on WWE!!

Uber User Posts: 794 | You don't seem to have included the list in the black numbers that appear for each book: e.g. Bring the Jubilee is down as being in 4 lists but it's actually in 5 if you include the Most Listed list. (Hopefully this does not set off an infinite recursion of metadata)

(Hopefully this does not set off an infinite recursion of metadata) We're not including the WWEnd Top Listed Books in the count of "best of" lists else we would be artificially inflating all the 4 and ups by 1 which would mean there would be no more 4's at all since the 3's would not be affected and all the 4s would become 5s. The Top Listed list is purely a statistical list not a judgement on the quality of the books in it like the best of lists. I hope that makes sense.

Veteran Posts: 207 | Great list! I'm at 72% so it will be one of the lists I preferentialy try and finish. @Maureen, I also have my own list but mine also includes all the awards on WWEnd plus a number of lists and awards that are not yet on WWEnd, its kind of a mega meta list. I pretty much only read books from the library or books I get cheap and second hand from book fairs. When I'm reading library books I use my meta list to choose what to read. Currently I have 17 books in the book fair "to read" stack so it may be a while yet before I knock the missing books on this list off. @Dave Is this list static or dynamic? If you add a new list will this list update itself with the books from the new list automatically or would you have to do it manually? If manually are you planning to do so?

Admin Posts: 4008 Location: Dallas, Texas | Glad you like the new list. It is a dynamic list so it will change and grow as we add more lists, automatically like the Top Nominated list.
