Biography

Wynne Whiteford attended St Patrick's College, East Melbourne, and left school during the Great Depression. His first business venture was a display company based in Prahran, Melbourne. He had a background in commercial law and practical engineering. In the 1930s he wrote short stories that appeared in journals such as the Sydney Bulletin. He wrote suspense stories for Australian magazines in the 1950s, and was technical editor of the Australian Motor Manual. He also wrote the 'pets' section of the Melbourne Herald for a year. Whiteford began writing long science fiction stories while he was living in Washington D.C. He later resided in London for two years. On his return to Australia he scripted a drama series for Radio Australia.
